Trekking in December vs. January/February

As the new year begins and the twinkling lights of the holidays fade away, the true nature of winter comes to life. December may seem like an ideal month to plan a trekking trip due to the festive atmosphere and mild temperatures. However, December is prone to overcrowded trails, high costs, and unpredictable weather conditions. Flights are expensive, hotels are overbooked, and trails become congested.

On the other hand, January and February bring with them a serene and peaceful scene of snowfall, creating a soft and luxurious blanket of white. The landscape transforms into a winter wonderland, inviting you to wrap yourself up in warm layers and venture outside to experience the magic firsthand. The air is crisp and fresh, the silence broken only by the soft crunch of snow underfoot. As we huddle indoors and wait for spring, we can’t help but appreciate the beauty that nature has to offer in the depths of winter.

    Winter Trekking Tips and Precautions

While winter trekking can be an unforgettable experience, it can also be challenging, especially for beginners. Here are some tips and precautions to ensure your trip is safe and enjoyable.

Firstly, pack warm clothing such as thermals, gloves, hats, and down jackets. The temperature can drop drastically at night, and you want to ensure you’re warm enough. Check the weather reports daily to know what to expect on your trek and carry gear such as crampons, gaiters, and trekking poles. Ensure you have all the essential gear before embarking on the trip.

Secondly, hire experienced guides who know the terrain and understand winter trekking conditions. Ensure your safety is prioritized, and if the conditions become too challenging, always choose to retreat. Don’t take undue risks. Lastly, abide by responsible trekking rules and leave no traces of your passage.

I really had amazing experience with tripsaa. This is my 1st trek with tripsaa. Trek guide charlie Sir was very helpful throughout the trek and next level tasty food in mountains by tripsaa cooks. Tents and sleeping bags were also of good quality. I'll recommend tripsaa to everyone. ✌️

I was sceptical at first about choosing Tripsaa for my first trek, but undoubtedly this was the best decision easily. Only because of experienced great trek leaders like Shiv sir and Charlie sir were to able to reach the top of the summit-Hampta. I wanted to give up multiple times but Shiv sir didn’t let me. Right before reaching the Hampta top- Shiv Sir stopped and let me go agead of him - he wanted me to complete the trek before him. Coming to the food at Tripsaa camp -from day 1 of our acclimatisation process to the very last day of camp was fresh, hot and delicious. Each of the meal was specifically curated to understand what our body might be requiring at that particular height. Highlight for us was definitely red sauce pasta and pahado wali maggie! Lastly doing business in the pit holes might be tricky and difficult- tripsaa tents not only had soil at all times but also saw dust , tissue papers and air freshners at all times which made the experience a little soothing xD All in all will definitely come on a trip with Tripsaa very soon. We all became a family by the end of the trip. A family of 28 🙂
