Overview

Located at a height of almost 13,799 feet, Sar Pass is a picturesque trek that is situated in the Shivalik Range in Himachal Pradesh. You can witness a part of the mighty Himalayas that is blanketed in dense greenery as well as pristine white. The trek begins at Kasol, a village located almost 5,184 feet above sea level, and trails through pine forests, green meadows, snow-covered lands, and a variety of other landscapes. It has been classified as an easy to moderate-grade trek and gives you an opportunity to visit Grahan, one of the state’s most beautiful villages. The trek also takes you to Min Thach, a gorgeous patch of meadow, then to Nagaru followed by yet another grassland called Biskeri Thatch, and finally to Sar Pass, completely covered in snow.

Day 1

Arrive at the village of Kasol

  • Arrive early at the Kasol Base Camp and get the registration process over with
  • Spend the remainder of the day getting acclimatized to the local conditions and enjoying the beauty of the village located by the Parvati River
  • Attend the orientation program that will be given here and learn more about packing your backpacks, specific techniques for walking, and more awareness about the route

Day 2

trekking to Grahan Village

  • Start your day early at Base Camp and after breakfast set off on the trek to the picturesque village of Grahan
  • The trail is relatively easy with an effortless climb and will take you through dense coniferous forests followed by grasslands
  • Once you reach Grahan Nallah, there will be a slight change in the terrain and the trail will become slightly steep and rocky here
  • After a steep climb for about an hour, you will reach Grahan which is located on top of a hill surrounded by Rhododendron trees
  • Freshen up and spend the night in camps under the stars surrounded by breathtaking mountainous scenery

Day 3

Trek from Grahan village to Ming Thach

  • Start the third day of your trek by heading north from the camping ground at Grahan after a hearty breakfast
  • After walking a short distance, you will start witnessing scenic mountain views and the trail to the lush meadow on Ming Thach will fall on your right
  • Walk for a few hours along this trail which also gets a little steep in parts and goes through dense forests
  • Find yourself coming out through a grassy ridge which is the Ming Thach clearing. Look for a place to pitch your tents where you will rest for the night
  • Enjoy views of the Chanderkhani and other mountain ranges along with dense forests and a mesmerizing sunset over the snowclad mountains

Day 4

Trek from Ming Thach to Nagaru

  • On Day four of your trek, start early as the weather begins to get unpredictable post-noon. After a filling breakfast, start your trek through the forests
  • You have to climb some steep ridges with meadows below on this part of the trek
  • Follow the well-marked trail which changes from tree-lined to grassy to snow-covered. Snow can make this stretch quite slippery, so be extra careful and carry an ice axe and waterproof gloves
  • You will reach Nagaru which is situated on a cliff after a few hours of trekking
  • Enjoy sights of the lush green Beas Valley, the Chandrakhani Ranges as well as Ming Thach, and Grahan Village
  • Set up camps and rest here for the night. It can get quite chilly here, so be well-prepared with warm clothing

DAY 5

Trek from Nagaru to Sar Pass and return to Bishkari Thach

  • This is the longest day of trekking on this expedition, so start early before dawn. Start climbing along the ridge line in the southern direction
  • You will come across several sharp and steep stretches and will have to walk on snow. Use of crampons and ice axe to make the walk easier
  • Once you reach the summit of Sar Pass you will be greeted with a breathtaking view of a frozen pond, the Tosh Valley, and snow-clad peaks
  • Slide down a gentle slope to the valley below for a fun experience until you reach the beautiful meadow of Biskeri Thach
  • Soak in the gorgeous beauty of the campsite with lots of streams and views of pine forests and snow-covered mountains
  • Rest for the night at Biskeri Thach

DAY 6

Trek from Biskeri Thach to Barshaini and Drive back to Kasol

  • On the final day of your trek, you set off on a steep path that goes along a stream and ends at a fenced plot of land
  • Go through the plot and then continue back on the trail till you enter a dense forest and then follow the north-eastern trail from here
  • Rappel down a stream on the way through 20 feet of rock with the help of a rope and then cross the stream across wooden planks. Continue along until you reach the twin villages of Pulga and Tulga
  • Once you cross another bridge from Tulga you will reach the last village of Parvati Valley called Barshaini
  • From Barshaini, you will be driven about 15 km to the village of Kasol, bringing you to the end of this wonderful trek

  • Fitness: A high altitude trek in the Himalayas requires considerable fitness. Your body needs to train itself to process more work with lower levels of oxygen. Therefore, on treks, cardiovascular training is critically important. You need to be able to jog a distance of 4 km in 40 mins before the start of the trek. Unable to do so can make your trek difficult. In addition, preparation of trek needs to include strength and flexibility training. Registering for the trek is an understanding that you will undertake the mandated fitness training.
  • Backpack carrying: Tripsaa expects all trekkers to carry their own backpacks. All common gear will be carried by the support team. If for some reason a trekker is unable to carry his or her backpack, he/she can offload the same by paying an additional charge before they start the trek. No suitcases/trolleys will be allowed.
  • Drop out during trek: If for any reason a participant has to drop out from the trek on any day then Tripsaa will help the trekker to reach the nearest road head. A support staff will accompany the participant to the nearest road head.
  • Non-liability: Tripsaa is not responsible for any loss/damage of your gears/ equipment or other belongings on the trek.
  • Payment: You may make this payment by Cash, Cheque, Online, DD or NEFT. Once you done the payment kindly provide us the payment detail through an email. (Go through payment procedure also.)
  • Payment procedure: To confirm your registration you need to pay at least 30% of trek fee as an advance and the balance payment has to be cleared before your pickup.
  • Cancellation: If the trek is called off at the last moment due to a natural calamity/unforeseen circumstances (like rains, earthquake, landslides, strike etc), Tripsaa will issue a trek voucher for the full amount. The voucher can be redeemed for the same trek or another trek in the next one year.The cancellation charges are as under:
    • Cancellations prior before 30 days from the start of the trek – Full Refund.
    • Cancellations prior to 29-15 days from the start of the trek – 80% Refund or Trek Voucher worth paid amount (Trek Voucher is valid 12 Months).
    • Cancellation prior to 7-14 days from the start of the trek — 50% refund or Trek Voucher worth paid amount (Trek Voucher is valid 12 Months).
    • Cancellation prior to 7 days from the start of the trek — no refund or Trek Voucher worth paid amount (Trek Voucher is valid 12 Months).
  • Drinking and smoking during the trek are strictly prohibited. If found flouting the rules, your participation on the trek will be canceled with immediate effect.
  • Route changes, postponement, delay or finishing the trek a day earlier: Under some extraordinary circumstance, your trek may end a day earlier or start a day later. This may become necessary due to inclement weather, snow and ice conditions, political restrictions or any other cause. In the event of a change, postponement or delay, participants have no right to refund of the trek (in whole or in part) or other compensation for any injury, loss or damage. Trek fee is not charged broken down in terms of days but is a composite fee for the whole trek.
