Overview

The trekking expedition of Hampta Pass is surely a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing. Taking you through the foothills of the majestic Himalayas, this trek will ensure that you catch the glimpses of rugged terrains, rolling green fields and lush forests. The beauty does not end here, as one also gets to discover the beauty of Lahaul and Spiti, followed by visiting the Chandratal Lake.

The trek will begin from Manali from where you will take a 1.5 hour long drive to Jobra Nala. This is the base from where the real trek starts. From here, an ascend starts to Chika wherein you are required to trek for 2 hours towards the elevation of 10400 ft. The third day of this trek is dedicated to climbing towards the basecamp of Balu ka Ghera. To reach here, you will be required to cross several streams, pass the boulder laden paths and walk along the river for the major part of the trek. Once you have reached an elevation of 12411 ft. at Balu ka Ghera, camps will be put out to spend the night in. The next day, an 8 KM long trek to the Hampta Pass will begin which will take you to your final destination. Once you are here, you will get to admire the virgin beauty of nature in its best preserved form. After this, a descent to Shea Goru will begin when your stay for the night awaits.

Day 0

Arrival in Manali for acclimatization (Recommended)

It’s always recommended to arrive at base camp one day prior to your trek for acclimatization.

Why is acclimatization necessary?

  • To get accustomed to the environment, food, and climate.
  • After a long and tiring overnight bus journey, your body needs rest.
  • You get spare time to collect anything you missed out on while packing from the local market.
  • You get to spend one extra day with your fellow trekkers and team, which helps you to know each other better.Watch Video to understand better.

NOTE: Charges 1000/- Rs. for stay at Tripsaa basecamp for 1 night.

Meal - Breakfast,Dinner

Day 1

Manali - Jobra (1.5 hour drive) – Chika (3 to 4 hours trek)

  • You need to report at Tripsaa Basecamp by 8 AM
  • The day will begin with a trek briefing followed by which you will be transferred to Jobra Nala.
  • Jobra Nala is the place from where the trek begins.
  • A 2-hour-long easy ascend will be carried out to reach Chika, lying at the height of 10,400 ft above sea level.
  • On your way to Chika, you will be blessed with views of thick green forests while crossing small bridges.
  • By the afternoon, you will reach the campsite at Chika, following which you will have your lunch and get enough time to rest in your tents.
  • After this, the remaining part of the day is at leisure, hence you are free to explore the surrounding areas of the campsite.
  • Additionally, some recreational activities like group games will also be organized by the trek leader to pass the time.
  • This day of Hampta Pass Trek will end with dinner and overnight camping in Chika.

Day 2

Chika - Balu ka Ghera (6 to 7 hours trek)

  • The third day of your summer trek to Hampta Pass will begin with some tea & snacks, followed by a stretching session with the trek leader.
  • Once you are done relishing some breakfast, trek towards Balu ka Ghera will begin.
  • A trek to Balu ka Ghera is an inclined trek which takes more than 7 hours to complete.
  • The first stop will be Jwara, which comes after the first three kilometers.
  • The routh till here involves crossing a river stream and glancing at the magnificence of unhindered nature. The thrill and the adventure involved in this activity will surely make your heart skip a beat.
  • You will get a chance to walk along the stream of Rani River for the major part of the trek.
  • Walk through a valley dotted with tiny multi-colored flowers until you reach Balu Ka Ghera.
  • Once you have reached Balu ka Ghera at an elevation of 12,411 feet above the sea level, you will be pitching your tents.
  • The night will be spent resting in your camps and admiring the beautiful star laden skies.

Day 3

Balu ka Ghera- Hampta Pass- Shea Goru (7 to 8 hours trek)

  • Fourth day of your trek to Hampta Pass will begin with breaking the camps early in the morning.
  • Once you’re done with breakfast, an 8 km, long trek will begin towards the Hampta Pass.
  • The climb to Hampta Pass is a vertical one, hence the difficulty level will be increased today.
  • Once you are at the Pass, the raw beauty of nature will unfold in front of you. Being surrounded by the rolling hills, white snowy fields and still standing mountains will capture the awe of each person.
  • Have your packed lunches at the Pass, enjoy the beautiful surroundings and get ready for the descend to Shea Goru.
  • You will reach Shea Goru by late evening, followed by which you will be resting in your camps besides the river. The place is picture perfect hence make sure that your gallery gets filled here.
  • In the local language, Shea Goru means “Thand Ka Kila”, hence be ready for the coldest night of this trekking expedition.
  • Have your dinner at the Shea Goru campsite and retire for the night with a feeling of contentment at the heart.

Day 4

Shea Goru – Chhatru - Chandratal - Chhatru (4 to 5 hours trek/ 6 hours drive both way)

  • Day five of the trek will begin with breaking the camps, having a breakfast and then beginning the trek towards the descend.
  • Today’s route will include crossing a river, passing through large green valleys of River Chandra and descending through serene paths.
  • The first half of the trek is comparatively easy hence you will surely enjoy the journey.
  • The first half of the trek will break at Chhatru from where you will get into your pre-booked cabs for a journey towards Chandratal. However, in rare cases of landslides or snow, the road to Chandratal is blocked hence you will have to camp at Chhatru. To reach Chandratal Lake, one kilometer long trek will be required from the vehicle parking area.
  • The day will end with having some delicious dinner and spending the night below the starry blanket of Chhatru.

Day 5

Chhatru - Manali (4 to 5 hours drive)

  • The day will begin with departing from Chhatru to Manali, early in the morning in shared cabs.
  • The transportation to Manali will be provided to you on time, and you will reach there within 4 to 6 hours, depending on the road conditions.
  • The trip will end at base camp in Manali, from where you can bid goodbye and head back to your homes with a bag full of memories.

  • Fitness: A high altitude trek in the Himalayas requires considerable fitness. Your body needs to train itself to process more work with lower levels of oxygen. Therefore, on treks, cardiovascular training is critically important. You need to be able to jog a distance of 4 km in 40 mins before the start of the trek. Unable to do so can make your trek difficult. In addition, preparation of trek needs to include strength and flexibility training. Registering for the trek is an understanding that you will undertake the mandated fitness training.
  • Backpack carrying: Tripsaa expects all trekkers to carry their own backpacks. All common gear will be carried by the support team. If for some reason a trekker is unable to carry his or her backpack, he/she can offload the same by paying an additional charge before they start the trek. No suitcases/trolleys will be allowed.
  • Drop out during trek: If for any reason a participant has to drop out from the trek on any day then Tripsaa will help the trekker to reach the nearest road head. A support staff will accompany the participant to the nearest road head.
  • Non-liability: Tripsaa is not responsible for any loss/damage of your gears/ equipment or other belongings on the trek.
  • Payment: You may make this payment by Cash, Cheque, Online, DD or NEFT. Once you done the payment kindly provide us the payment detail through an email. (Go through payment procedure also.)
  • Payment procedure: To confirm your registration you need to pay at least 30% of trek fee as an advance and the balance payment has to be cleared before your pickup.
  • Cancellation: If the trek is called off at the last moment due to a natural calamity/unforeseen circumstances (like rains, earthquake, landslides, strike etc), Tripsaa will issue a trek voucher for the full amount. The voucher can be redeemed for the same trek or another trek in the next one year.The cancellation charges are as under:
    • Cancellations prior before 30 days from the start of the trek – Full Refund.
    • Cancellations prior to 29-15 days from the start of the trek – 80% Refund or Trek Voucher worth paid amount (Trek Voucher is valid 12 Months).
    • Cancellation prior to 7-14 days from the start of the trek — 50% refund or Trek Voucher worth paid amount (Trek Voucher is valid 12 Months).
    • Cancellation prior to 7 days from the start of the trek — no refund or Trek Voucher worth paid amount (Trek Voucher is valid 12 Months).
  • Drinking and smoking during the trek are strictly prohibited. If found flouting the rules, your participation on the trek will be canceled with immediate effect.
  • Route changes, postponement, delay or finishing the trek a day earlier: Under some extraordinary circumstance, your trek may end a day earlier or start a day later. This may become necessary due to inclement weather, snow and ice conditions, political restrictions or any other cause. In the event of a change, postponement or delay, participants have no right to refund of the trek (in whole or in part) or other compensation for any injury, loss or damage. Trek fee is not charged broken down in terms of days but is a composite fee for the whole trek.
